Justin Timberlake is expected to change his plea in his DUI case in the Hamptons in New York this Friday. Although the specifics of the plea deal have not been revealed, a source familiar with the agreement mentioned that Timberlake will plead guilty to a lesser offense than driving while intoxicated. The source requested anonymity as they were not authorized to discuss the case publicly. Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward Burke, declined to provide a statement on the matter.
The pop star is scheduled to make a personal appearance in Sag Harbor Village Court on Friday to enter his plea, as confirmed by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office. Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor on June 18 after allegedly running a stop sign, veering out of his lane, and exhibiting signs of impairment. The 43-year-old artist from Tennessee entered a not guilty plea to a misdemeanor DUI charge.
During a recent hearing, a judge revoked Timberlake’s driving privileges in New York. His attorney, Burke, has maintained his client’s sobriety and advocated for the case’s dismissal. Police reports indicated that Timberlake was stopped after leaving a Sag Harbor hotel and displayed signs of intoxication.
Law enforcement stated that Timberlake’s eyes were red and glassy, emitting a strong smell of alcohol, and he had difficulty with cognitive tasks, speech, and coordination during field sobriety tests. Timberlake allegedly admitted to consuming one martini and claimed he was following friends home before being taken into custody for the night.
Representatives for the former NSYNC member, who has won 10 Grammy awards, have not responded to requests for comments. Timberlake’s career began as a child performer on Disney’s “The Mickey Mouse Club,” followed by success with the boy band NSYNC and a solo music career. Sag Harbor, a historical village mentioned in Herman Melville’s “Moby-Dick,” is situated in the Hamptons, approximately 100 miles east of New York City.
