In Greenview, S.C., Charleston Southern secured a 24-20 victory against Furman on Saturday night, with quarterback Rob McCoy Jr. throwing two touchdown passes during the game. Furman managed to close the gap somewhat when Ian Williams made a 30-yard field goal, bringing the score to 21-20, with 9:45 left. However, a turnover occurred in Furman’s next possession when Trey Hedden was sacked and fumbled the ball, allowing Charleston Southern to score a 23-yard field goal by Reid Montgomery, solidifying their lead at 24-20 with only 2:18 remaining.
McCoy found Noah Jennings for touchdowns twice in the first half, placing the Buccaneers in the lead at 14-10 at halftime. Furman briefly took the lead 17-14 early in the third quarter after Myion Hicks’ 1-yard touchdown run. McCoy completed 12 of his 23 passes for 143 yards, while Jennings caught seven passes for 97 yards. Autavius Ison contributed 90 rushing yards on 19 carries, including a 7-yard touchdown run for Charleston Southern (1-1).
Hedden, on the other hand, completed 12 of his 15 passes for 193 yards for Furman, with one touchdown pass and an interception. Hicks gained 68 rushing yards for Furman (0-2) during the game.
