In Annapolis, Maryland, Navy faced off against Temple in their American Athletic Conference opener, with Navy securing a 38-11 victory. Quarterback Blake Horvath was instrumental in Navy’s win, amassing 234 total yards and four touchdowns. Horvath impressively ran for 122 yards on 15 carries, scoring three touchdowns, and threw for 112 yards and an additional touchdown. Navy (2-0, 1-0) outperformed Temple (0-2, 0-1) with a total yardage of 409-312 and limited penalties to only four throughout the game.
The game kicked off with Navy’s defense setting the tone by earning two points on a safety as Temple quarterback Forest Brock was tackled in the end zone after a 7-yard loss. Navy extended their lead to 9-0 at the end of the first quarter when Horvath completed an 11-play, 58-yard drive with a 2-yard rushing touchdown. Momentum stayed with Navy as Jaxson Campbell intercepted Brock on Temple’s subsequent possession, allowing Horvath to sprint for a 62-yard touchdown on the very next play, increasing Navy’s lead to 16-0.
Temple struggled to break Navy’s defense, being forced to punt after an eight-play drive. Navy capitalized on the opportunity, with running back Alex Tecza dashing 65 yards for a touchdown, bringing the score to 23-0 with 8:04 remaining in the first half. Temple, coming off a challenging 51-3 loss to Oklahoma, managed to score their first touchdown of the season when Brock connected with Dante Wright for a 23-yard touchdown, narrowing the score to 38-11 with 10 minutes left in the game.
Despite Temple’s effort, Brock’s performance of 277 passing yards and two interceptions was not enough to overcome Navy’s strong showing. Navy’s solid defense and efficient offense led them to a convincing victory over Temple in their conference opener.
