Tyler Shough had an impressive game, throwing for 349 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 22 Louisville to a commanding 49-14 victory over Jacksonville State on Saturday. This marked the sixth time Shough had thrown for over 300 yards in a game, completing 21 of 33 attempts. One of his crucial plays was a 48-yard touchdown pass to Chris Bell in the third quarter, extending the Cardinals’ lead to 35-14. Louisville’s ground game was also strong, with five different backs contributing to 233 rushing yards and four touchdowns in the first half.
Jacksonville State, led by quarterback Tyler Huff, put up a competitive effort. Huff passed for 160 yards and a touchdown, in addition to rushing for 101 yards and another score, showing off his dual-threat capabilities. Despite some positive moments, Jacksonville State struggled to convert on third downs, only managing to convert 2 of 12 against Louisville after facing similar issues in their previous game against Coastal Carolina.
The victory positions Louisville well in the upcoming polls, with expectations to move up in the rankings following the dominant performance against Jacksonville State. Looking ahead, Jacksonville State will take on Eastern Michigan on the road next Saturday, while Louisville will have a week off to prepare for a home game against No. 23 Georgia Tech on September 21. Despite the strong start to the season, Louisville’s defense aims to tighten up even further during the upcoming break in preparation for conference play.
