Brant Hurter leads Tigers to victory over Athletics, putting them above .500

Brant Hurter delivered an impressive performance, pitching 5 1/3 innings with just one run allowed, leading the Detroit Tigers to a 2-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics in Saturday’s game. The win pushed the Tigers above .500 again after a recent rough patch where they lost three of their last four games. Detroit, now standing at 72-71, has not had a winning season since their 86-75 record in 2016.

Hurter, with a 4-1 record, came into the game following Brenan Hanifee, who handled the first two outs as the opener. Hurter conceded only four hits, struck out three batters, and walked one during his time on the mound.

Oakland, with a 62-81 record, suffered their third loss in the past four games. Despite a strong performance by Brady Basso, who struck out six hitters and allowed only three hits over six innings, the A’s were unable to secure a win.

The turning point came in the seventh inning when the Tigers capitalized on an error by A’s second baseman Zack Gelof to load the bases with no outs. Dillon Dingler drove in Colt Keith with a fielder’s choice grounder against T.J. McFarland (2-2), before Parker Meadows extended the Tigers’ lead to 2-1 with a sacrifice fly.
