Former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton, who was part of the Tigers’ national championship teams in 2016 and 2018, has passed away at the age of 26. The tragic news was confirmed by Clemson University, which reached out to authorities in Greensboro, North Carolina, where Overton’s death reportedly occurred. The university did not provide further details surrounding the circumstances of his passing.

In a statement released on Saturday, Clemson Football expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their former player, saying, “Clemson Football and the entire Clemson Family mourns the passing of Clemson alumnus Diondre Overton. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

During his time at Clemson from 2016 to 2019, Overton made 52 catches for 777 yards and seven touchdowns in 51 games. Following his college career, he went on to play professionally in the USFL in 2022 and 2023. His standout season at Clemson was in 2019, where he tallied career highs with 22 receptions for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Notably, all three of those touchdowns came in a single game against Boston College, where he amassed 119 yards on just three catches.
