Amy Slaton Halterman, a participant on the reality show “1,000-Lb. Sisters,” was apprehended at a Tennessee zoo and accused of drug possession and putting a child at risk, authorities revealed on Tuesday. Halterman was taken into custody on Monday at the Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo alongside Brian Scott Lovvorn after deputies discovered marijuana and suspected illegal mushrooms in the car they occupied, according to Stephen Sutton, a spokesperson for the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department.
The deputies were summoned to the West Tennessee zoo following reports of a visitor potentially being bitten by a camel, as per a sheriff’s department release. Upon reaching the visitor’s vehicle, officers detected “suspicious odors” emanating from the car, the statement noted.
In addition to the drugs, two children were present in the vehicle, Sutton mentioned. The ownership of the children was not immediately specified. They have since been entrusted to the care of family members.
Halterman was transported to a hospital for treatment of an arm injury that may have resulted from the camel incident, Sutton explained. Subsequently, both she and Lovvorn were processed at the county jail.
A court official indicated that the court was unaware of whether Halterman or Lovvorn had legal representation to address the charges brought against them.
The zoo is situated approximately 80 miles northeast of Memphis.
