Former President Donald Trump is set to hold campaign events in Michigan and Wisconsin as he increases his travel to battleground states leading up to the Labor Day period transitioning towards the fall election.
Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, will have their first major television interview of the presidential campaign while touring in southeast Georgia on a bus tour. This interview with CNN’s Dana Bash aims to address criticism of Harris avoiding uncontrolled environments.
Rules for the upcoming debate between Trump and Harris include no audience, live microphones when candidates aren’t speaking, and no written notes, as per information disclosed by ABC News to both campaigns.
Recently, an Arlington Cemetery official was reportedly pushed aside during an event attended by Trump, an incident promptly reported to the police, but no charges were pressed, leading the Army to consider the matter resolved.
Trump campaign adviser Corey Lewandowski accused Harris of evading the news media, contrasting it with Trump’s numerous recent interviews. Lewandowski also emphasized Trump competing against two Democratic nominees after Harris’ nomination by Democrats following President Joe Biden’s exit from the race.
Polling indicates a spike in enthusiasm among Democrats for the upcoming election, with about 8 in 10 Democrats expressing increased enthusiasm compared to 55% in March. In comparison, Republicans’ enthusiasm has seen a smaller increase over the same period.
Trump’s campaign efforts in swing districts in Michigan and Wisconsin are intensifying, focusing on recapturing states won in 2016 but narrowly lost in 2020. Trump is slated to visit Potterville, Michigan, and La Crosse, Wisconsin, for campaign events on Thursday.
Harris and Walz’s interview with CNN’s Dana Bash aims to provide Harris with an opportunity to address criticisms and define her campaign as she heads towards a debate with Trump scheduled for Sept. 10. The interview is part of the duo’s bus tour through southeast Georgia and is expected to air at 9 p.m. EDT.
