In the aftermath of a boxing match at Sydney Arena, Michael Zerafa won by TKO against Tommy Browne, who retired after the first round due to a biceps injury. Zerafa expressed his dissatisfaction with Browne’s decision to quit and engaged in a heated argument with Browne’s trainer, Tommy Mercuri. The situation escalated when Zerafa’s brother, Jason-Manuel Zerafa, entered the ring and punched Mercuri before being escorted out of the arena.
Retired American boxer Shawn Porter, commentating on the fight, condemned the incident as “unacceptable” and suggested that Michael Zerafa’s brother should not be in his corner if capable of such behavior. Commentary from Peter Badel echoed the sentiment, stating that Zerafa’s brother should be banned from future boxing events due to his actions.
Authorities have indicated that an investigation will be launched into the altercation by both the New South Wales Combat Authority and Australian promoters No Limit. Leading up to the fight, Browne had accused Zerafa of quitting in a prior bout, adding to the tension between the two fighters.
