SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador – A 6.1 magnitude earthquake shook El Salvador on Wednesday afternoon, with no immediate reports of damage, as per the U.S. Geological Survey. The earthquake, centered 37 miles (60 kilometers) off the coast of La Libertad in the western region, was felt across the country. Two aftershocks measuring 4.1 and 4.5 in magnitude followed the initial quake, according to Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele. The seismic activity was also strongly felt in neighboring Guatemala.
According to Bukele, there was no tsunami threat following the earthquake. Bukele stated, “Thank God, there have been no human or material damages reported so far. 100% of services and traffic on roads continue without interruption.”
