Kyren Lacy has established himself as a top receiver for No. 13 LSU after transferring from Louisiana-Lafayette. Although his 826 receiving yards in two seasons with the Tigers are impressive, they are less than half of the production of LSU’s all-time receiving leader Malik Nabers in the previous season alone. With a revamped offense this season, Lacy is the only returning starter from LSU’s 2023 passing game, which featured quarterback Jayden Daniels, Nabers, and Brian Thomas. Now, Garrett Nussmeier has taken over as LSU’s starting QB for the 2024 season opener against USC.
The expected trio of starting receivers for LSU includes Lacy, Chris Hilton, and CJ Daniels, a transfer from Liberty. However, Hilton’s availability for the season opener is uncertain due to a bone bruise. If Hilton is unable to play, Kyle Parker, a second-year player with no career catches, could fill in. LSU coach Brian Kelly expressed confidence in Parker’s abilities, emphasizing the team’s trust in all recruited players to perform in the SEC.
Nussmeier, who is stepping into the starting QB role after backing up Daniels, brings a traditional pocket passer style to LSU’s offense. With a father who is an NFL coach, Nussmeier benefits from daily mentorship and guidance. His performance in the previous season showcased his potential, and he will lead an offense supported by a strong offensive line that excels in both running and passing plays.
LSU’s offense is expected to feature quick screens this season, allowing for rapid distribution of the ball to playmakers like Lacy, who anticipates a diverse range of contributions from different players. Nussmeier’s ability to utilize these quick passes alongside a balanced offensive line sets the stage for an exciting season for LSU’s offense.
