Key Details of the 2024 MTV VMAs: Megan Thee Stallion as Host, Taylor Swift’s Dominance

Megan Thee Stallion, known for her talents as a rapper, singer, and businesswoman, is set to expand her repertoire as she takes on the role of host for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. This will be a new experience for Megan Thee Stallion as she steps into the spotlight in front of her musical peers after previously guest hosting on “Saturday Night Live” and co-hosting “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

The upcoming award show, scheduled for September 11th at 8 p.m. Eastern time at the UBS Arena on Long Island, promises a night filled with star-studded performances, numerous moon people trophies, and a special appearance by Taylor Swift.

The VMAs were rescheduled to avoid a conflict with the U.S. presidential debate, with both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump participating. Taylor Swift leads the pack with 10 nominations, closely followed by Post Malone with nine nods. Other top nominees include Ariana Grande, Bad Bunny, Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, SZA, Blackpink’s LISA, Olivia Rodrigo, and Teddy Swims.

The prestigious Video Vanguard Award will be presented to Katy Perry, who will also take the stage for a performance. Past recipients of this award include iconic artists such as Shakira, Beyoncé, Madonna, and Missy Elliott.

A lineup of diverse performers is set to entertain viewers at the VMAs, including artists like Halsey, Lenny Kravitz, Anitta, Karol G, and the dynamic duo Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello.

Fan voting for the 15 gender-neutral categories is currently underway and will close on Friday, with the best new artist category remaining open for voting throughout the show.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards are shaping up to be a memorable event, filled with exciting performances, deserving award recipients, and plenty of surprises.
