During the opening day of the Notting Hill Carnival, which is known as Europe’s largest street festival, three individuals were stabbed, as reported by the London Metropolitan Police Service. One of the victims, a 32-year-old woman, sustained severe injuries described as “life-threatening.”

The Notting Hill Carnival, an event that celebrates Afro-Caribbean culture, is anticipated to draw over 1 million attendees annually. The festival spans across the streets of the Notting Hill neighborhood in west London and is set to conclude on Monday. To ensure the safety of participants, a force of 7,000 police officers has been deployed to oversee the festivities.

Law enforcement officials noted that on the first day of the carnival, a total of 90 arrests were made. Among those apprehended, 10 individuals were charged with assaulting emergency personnel, 18 were taken into custody for possessing offensive weapons, and four were arrested for sexual offenses.

In a statement issued by the Met, it was emphasized that while hundreds of thousands of individuals came together to enjoy the Notting Hill Carnival, a minority chose to partake in criminal activities and violence.
