Images: A glimpse into the 2024 Democratic National Convention

The Democratic National Convention in Chicago witnessed thousands of delegates officially nominating Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this month. In a celebratory roll call of states, the Democrats reiterated their choice of Harris, marking a historic moment as the first Black woman and nominee of South Asian descent to lead the party’s ticket in 2024.

Following a tumultuous period for the party, President Joe Biden decided to close his campaign and endorsed Kamala Harris, amid increasing pressure from within the Democratic ranks. Harris, joined by her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, embarked on a busy tour of battleground states leading up to the convention. She appeared at the arena on the opening night, giving a brief speech before watching speeches from the box seats. Harris later returned to the stage to embrace Biden after his address, symbolizing a transition of leadership.

Although the convention was originally planned to honor Biden as the top figure, it evolved into an event recognizing his legacy and passing the baton to Harris, especially evident on the first night. Many emotional delegates, some wearing state-specific outfits, were moved to tears while holding signs declaring their love for Biden. Accompanied by his daughter Ashley, Biden also showed his emotions, wiping his eyes as he embraced her before delivering his speech to the audience.
