The Minnesota Vikings recently signed a one-year contract with cornerback Stephon Gilmore, making him the fifth cornerback to join the team since training camp started. This move aims to strengthen the team’s cornerback position.
Gilmore’s deal includes $7 million guaranteed with a potential worth of up to $10 million, according to his agent, Jason Chayut, as reported by ESPN. The seasoned player was named the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 while with the New England Patriots and has been selected to the Pro Bowl five times.
At 34 years old, Gilmore, who celebrated his birthday on September 19, became a free agent after his time with the Dallas Cowboys in 2023. He played through a shoulder injury during the Cowboys’ playoff loss and later underwent surgery for a torn labrum.
Originally drafted as the 10th overall pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2012 out of South Carolina, Gilmore spent five years with the Bills before moving to the New England Patriots in 2017. During his tenure with the Patriots, he clinched a Super Bowl victory in the 2018 season. Gilmore also had stints with the Carolina Panthers in 2021 and the Indianapolis Colts in 2022.
