Lauren Coughlin emerged victorious in the Women’s Scottish Open with a stellar putting performance, carding a 3-under 69 to claim her second LPGA title of the summer. This win also earned her a spot on the U.S. Solheim Cup team. Coughlin, who previously won the CPKC Women’s Open in Canada, overcame early bogeys to surpass Megan Khang and Esther Henseleit at Dundonald Links.
The American golfer, aged 31, exhibited remarkable composure by one-putting the final seven holes amidst challenging weather conditions. Her exceptional play was highlighted by crucial saves, including a par from a bunker on the 16th hole and a 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th.
Finishing with a total of 15-under 273, Coughlin secured a four-shot victory over Henseleit, who settled for second place with a score of 70. This marked Henseleit’s second consecutive runner-up finish following her recent Olympic silver medal in Paris.
By accumulating sufficient Solheim Cup points, Lauren Coughlin secured one of the six automatic spots on the U.S. team for the upcoming matches at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Virginia. This will be her debut appearance in the prestigious Solheim Cup event.
Megan Khang, initially tied with Coughlin, faded down the stretch, closing with a 74 to share third place with Ayaka Furue of Japan, who posted a 68. Charley Hull of England struggled and finished fifth, seven shots off the lead after carding a 73.
Following the Women’s Scottish Open, the LPGA tour moves across Scotland to St. Andrews for the Women’s British Open, the final major championship of the year.
