Liberty Secures Playoff Spot with 79-67 Victory Against Aces

Sabrina Ionescu led the New York Liberty to a 79-67 victory over the Las Vegas Aces with 23 points, securing their fourth consecutive trip to the playoffs. The Liberty, with a record of 23-4, continued their dominance in the league with this win on the road, their second victory over Las Vegas this season. Breanna Stewart contributed 18 points, and Jonquel Jones recorded a double-double with 10 points and a season-high 17 rebounds. Leonie Fiebich also chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds.

On the Las Vegas side, A’ja Wilson led with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Kelsey Plum scored 13 points, 11 of which came in the first quarter. Chelsea Gray added 13 points, six rebounds, and six assists for the Aces.

The game saw a strong start from Las Vegas as Plum’s hot shooting helped them take a lead in the first quarter, but Ionescu and the Liberty fought back, ending the first half with a 42-36 lead. New York’s solid defense held Las Vegas to just eight points in the second quarter.

In the second half, the Liberty continued to build on their lead, with Stewart’s 3-pointer early in the final period extending their advantage to double digits. Despite a brief comeback attempt by the Aces, New York maintained control and secured the win.

This was the first game back for the Aces following the league’s break for the Paris Olympics. Up next, the Las Vegas Aces will face the Los Angeles Sparks, while the New York Liberty will return home to play against the Dallas Wings.
