Indiana Jones’ famous felt hat sold for $630,000 at auction

Propstore announced on Friday that the brown felt fedora worn by actor Harrison Ford in the film “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” was sold at an auction for $630,000. The hat, worn by Ford’s character Indiana Jones, was initially expected to sell for between $250,000 and $500,000. This iconic hat was part of the personal collection of late stunt performer Dean Ferrandini, who also wore it while standing in for Ford during filming.
According to Propstore’s expert, keeping the fedora in place during filming was a continual challenge, and foam pieces were added to ensure a snug fit. Crafted by the Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London, the hat is made of sable-colored rabbit felt.
In addition to the fedora, other items were auctioned off, including an Imperial scout trooper’s white “biker scout” helmet from “Return of the Jedi” which sold for $315,000, and a ghost costume worn in the film “Scream” which fetched $270,900.
“Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” also starred Kate Capshaw as nightclub singer Willie Scott and Ke Huy Quan as Short Round.
