Donald Trump is holding a rally on Saturday in northeastern Pennsylvania, aiming to attract conservative, white working-class voters in a battleground state. The region includes President Joe Biden’s hometown, and Trump hopes the support from this demographic will help him secure victory in the upcoming election. Trump had success in this area during the 2016 and 2020 elections, and he sees it as a key strategy to focus on Democratic vulnerabilities in the region.
As Democrats gear up for their national convention in Chicago starting Monday, where Kamala Harris will be welcomed as their nominee, Trump continues to criticize her and the Biden administration. Trump has been vocal about Harris’ proposed measures on the economy, particularly her stance on price gouging and fracking. He has raised concerns about potential food shortages and rationing if grocery price gouging is banned.
Despite the challenges, some Democrats in Pennsylvania acknowledge that the economy is a top concern for many voters in the region. Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis highlighted the energy and enthusiasm among voters, particularly towards Vice President Harris. Democrats are working on grassroots efforts, including multiple field offices across the state, to rally support for the Harris-Walz ticket.
Harris is planning a bus tour starting in Pittsburgh, with various stops including a small town in Rochester. Meanwhile, Trump has a scheduled visit to a plant in York, where his running mate JD Vance is also expected to be in Philadelphia. Trump and Harris are both focusing on key counties in Pennsylvania where they have had past successes in elections, such as Luzerne County and Lackawanna County, respectively.
Despite initial disappointment among some of Biden’s supporters in Scranton over his decision to step aside for Harris, many have now embraced the new ticket wholeheartedly. Diane Munley, a loyal supporter of Biden, expressed her enthusiasm for the Harris-Walz ticket, stating that everyone in her circle is fully committed to supporting Harris. Democrats in the area are energized and eager to rally behind their new nominee, setting the stage for a competitive campaign in the state.
