Chargers rookie offensive tackle Joe Alt aims for further improvement in upcoming game against Rams

Joe Alt, the rookie offensive tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers, admitted feeling overwhelmed by SoFi Stadium during the preseason opener against the Seattle Seahawks. However, he quickly focused on his performance after taking in the grandeur of the field. Alt, the fifth overall pick in April’s draft, is expected to increase his workload in the upcoming game against the Los Angeles Rams.

During the last game, Alt saw 21 snaps at right tackle, showing both promise and areas for improvement. Despite allowing an early quarterback pressure, Alt settled into the game and performed better as it progressed. He emphasized the importance of perfecting his techniques, such as position balance, hand placement, and footwork.

The Chargers’ offensive coordinator and coaches praised Alt for his dedication and quick adaptation to the professional level. Alt’s exposure to top pass rushers like Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa in practice has accelerated his learning process, according to offensive coach Mike Devlin. The team is optimistic about Alt’s progress but acknowledges that facing new challenges will be part of his ongoing development.

In addition to Alt, the Chargers have made adjustments to their offensive line, with Trey Pipkins moving to right guard and Bradley Bozeman joining as center. Bozeman, recently signed from Charlotte, is currently dealing with an undisclosed injury. The coaches are looking for improved pass protection from the entire offensive line in the upcoming game against the Rams.

Easton Stick is set to start at quarterback for the second consecutive game, with Max Duggan and Luis Perez expected to play later in the game. Wide receivers Joshua Palmer and Ladd McConkey, who missed the previous game due to injuries, are anticipated to return for the game against the Rams. Meanwhile, quarterback Justin Herbert is making progress from a foot injury but it remains uncertain when he will return to practice.

Overall, the Chargers are working on refining their strategies and player performances as they gear up for their preseason matchup against the Rams.
