Astros third baseman Alex Bregman dealing with right elbow swelling, may sit out upcoming series against White Sox

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman will be absent from Friday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox due to swelling in the back of his right elbow. Bregman mentioned that the issue arose after he slept awkwardly on it a few days ago. Despite undergoing an MRI that revealed no damage, Bregman remains optimistic that the problem is not severe and anticipates a return to the lineup after a brief period of rest.

Expressing disappointment over the timing of the injury, Bregman acknowledged his strong performance at the plate recently, stating, “Obviously it’s pretty unfortunate because I’m swinging the bat really well right now. I’m playing really well.” He hopes to make a speedy recovery and resume playing soon, emphasizing that the issue is a minor setback that he aims to address promptly.

Bregman shared his tentative plan to potentially miss the weekend series and target a comeback at the beginning of the upcoming series against the Boston Red Sox on Monday.

In the current season, Bregman holds a batting average of .261 with 19 home runs and 59 RBIs. Notably, he has hit four home runs in the last five games and accumulated six RBIs and 11 hits during this period. His remarkable performance recently earned him the co-American League player of the week title alongside teammate Yordan Alvarez. This recognition followed Bregman’s impressive display with a batting average of .444, three doubles, three home runs, six RBIs, and a 1.389 OPS across six games.
