England’s Conor Gallagher, a midfielder, has returned to Chelsea and is currently training alone at the club following complications in finalizing his move to Atletico Madrid. Atletico had announced Gallagher’s imminent transfer for a reported 33 million pounds ($42.5 million) with a social media post last Saturday, displaying a photo of the player at Wanda Metropolitano stadium for the transfer process.
However, the deal hit a snag due to the breakdown of an arrangement involving Atletico striker Samu Omorodion moving to Chelsea as part of the deal, leading Gallagher to return to his parent club. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed on Friday that Gallagher is now back in London and training separately from the team, ruling him out of the upcoming Premier League game against Manchester City on Sunday.
Maresca stated that Gallagher is in discussions with the club to resolve the situation, expressing hope that all parties involved will reach a satisfactory outcome. Gallagher, who served as Chelsea’s vice-captain last season and represented England at the Euro 2020, finds himself in a wait-and-see situation as negotiations continue between the clubs involved.
