Giants’ Logan Webb throws 7 2/3 scoreless innings to lead team to a 6-0 win over Braves and avoid sweep

Logan Webb delivered a standout performance by pitching seven-plus shutout innings, leading the San Francisco Giants to a 6-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Thursday, preventing a sweep. Webb, an All-Star pitcher, secured his fourth consecutive win while limiting the Braves to four hits, striking out seven in the process. His exceptional performance marked the 14th time this season that he pitched at least seven innings, the most by any pitcher in the majors.

Grant McCray, in his first big league hit, showcased an impressive display by going 2 for 3 with his first career home run. McCray, the Giants’ 11th-ranked prospect, also drove in a run with an RBI bunt single in the second inning, marking his first MLB hit. McCray’s stellar homer came in the sixth inning, shortly after Casey Schmitt’s two-run blast, extending the Giants’ lead from 2-0 to 5-0.

San Francisco took an early lead with two runs in the second inning after loading the bases. Tyler Fitzgerald contributed with a sacrifice fly following McCray’s hit. On the Braves side, starter Max Fried pitched into the sixth inning, allowing three runs and striking out five batters.

In the injury updates, the Giants placed RHP Randy Rodriguez on the 15-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation, while RHP Spencer Bivens was called up from Triple-A Sacramento. Braves outfielder Jorge Soler, who experienced left hamstring tightness in the previous game, was absent from Thursday’s lineup.

Looking ahead, the Braves are set to start RHP Spencer Schwellenbach in the upcoming series against the Angels, while the Giants will have a day off on Friday before RHP Hayden Birdsong takes the mound in a two-game series against the A’s over the weekend.
