JJ Bleday hit his first ever grand slam, while Shea Langeliers reached base five times during the Oakland Athletics’ thrilling 7-6 victory over the New York Mets. The game, which lasted 3 hours and 45 minutes, became the longest nine-inning game in the pitch clock era with a total of 425 pitches, the highest in a nine-inning game this season.
Langeliers had an exceptional performance, going 3 for 4 with a walk and being hit by a pitch. The A’s managed to win, despite leaving 16 runners on base, a season-high for the team. They made an impressive comeback after trailing 5-0, securing two wins out of three games against the Mets.
Tyler Nevin tied the game with an RBI groundout in the sixth inning, and Langeliers scored on a single by Seth Brown. Tyler Ferguson, Shaun Alexander, and Mason Miller were crucial in securing the win for the Athletics.
For the Mets, Mark Vientos homered twice, and Luis Torrens hit a two-run single. However, the team’s pitchers walked a season-high 11 batters and couldn’t stop the Athletics’ offense from rallying.
The Athletics will be relocating to Sacramento for the next three seasons as they await the construction of a new stadium in Las Vegas. They concluded their Oakland tenure with a 121-174 record as a visiting team in New York.
In terms of upcoming games, the Athletics will face the San Francisco Giants, while the Mets will square off against the Miami Marlins in the following match-ups.
Additionally, Mets’ outfielder Brandon Nimmo was absent from the game due to a stomach illness, and pitcher Sean Reid-Foley has been sidelined for a few days with a right shoulder issue during a rehab stint.
