The Dallas Cowboys have announced that they are finalizing a trade with the New York Giants to acquire veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips. As part of the deal, the Cowboys will also receive a seventh-round pick in the 2026 draft, while the Giants will obtain a sixth-round selection.
Phillips, who is 31 years old, brings depth to the Cowboys’ defensive line. The team is looking to strengthen their defense, especially with hopes of improvement from Mazi Smith, their first-round pick from the 2023 draft who had a challenging rookie season.
Originally a second-round pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2015, Phillips has played for multiple teams during his nine-year career. After signing with the Giants in the offseason, he is now set to join the Cowboys, marking his fourth team switch.
The former University of Oklahoma player started 26 out of 44 games in his initial three years with the Dolphins before being released in 2018. Subsequently, Phillips joined the Buffalo Bills in 2018 and put up impressive numbers, achieving career highs of 9 1/2 sacks and 13 tackles for loss during the 2019 season.
Throughout his career, Phillips has also had stints with the Arizona Cardinals, amassing 24 sacks in 120 games with 62 starts. The details of the trade are anticipated to be finalized soon, as the Cowboys bolster their defensive line with the addition of Phillips.
