Best destinations to travel: Why go to… Bora Bora?

The small island of Bora Bora, just 6 miles long and a little over 2 miles wide, is a paradise overflowing with natural beauty.

At its heart, a dormant volcano rises and fans out into a lush jungle, eventually merging with an aquamarine lagoon. James Michener, author of Tales of the South Pacific, once declared Bora Bora “the most beautiful island in the world,” while 18th-century British explorer James Cook dubbed it the “Pearl of the Pacific.”

This idyllic destination epitomizes the tropical escape, boasting luxurious resorts, sunny skies, warm waters, and welcoming locals.

As you might expect, tourism is the lifeblood of this tiny island in French Polynesia and its surrounding motu (islets). Visitors can indulge in snorkeling, explore Vaitape, the island’s main port, hike Mount Otemanu, and more.

However, there’s a caveat: Bora Bora is exceptionally expensive. In essence, come to Bora Bora for its breathtaking natural beauty, ultimate relaxation, and if your budget allows for a lavish experience.
