IndyCar driver David Malukas, who was let go from Arrow McLaren due to injuries sustained in a mountain bike accident, has now secured a multiyear deal with A.J. Foyt Racing. This announcement comes several months after Malukas, 22, parted ways with Arrow McLaren without competing in an IndyCar race for the team due to a wrist injury from the biking incident. Malukas expressed his excitement about joining A.J. Foyt Racing, citing the team’s rich history and success as pivotal reasons for his decision.
Malukas had originally signed with McLaren’s three-car IndyCar team in September after Alex Palou, a two-time series champion, breached his contract with the team. Unfortunately, Malukas dislocated his wrist and tore tendons in the biking accident a month before the season’s opening race. Despite the team anticipating his absence for just two races, Malukas ended up missing four consecutive races, leading to McLaren invoking a contract clause to terminate the deal. He eventually returned to racing in June with Meyer Shank Racing.
A.J. Foyt Racing’s team president, Larry Foyt, expressed confidence in Malukas, describing him as a fierce competitor with considerable natural talent. Foyt believes Malukas will mesh well with the team’s engineers and mechanics and play a crucial role in their continued climb up the IndyCar rankings. The next IndyCar race is scheduled for Saturday at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 in Madison, Illinois.
