The Washington Commanders have added Martavis Bryant to their roster, signing the receiver who has been out of the NFL since 2018 due to a substance-abuse violation. To make room for Bryant, Washington released kicker Ramiz Ahmed earlier this week. Bryant’s last game was in 2018 for the Oakland Raiders before their move to Las Vegas. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers from Clemson and had a successful rookie season with eight touchdown receptions in 10 games.
However, Bryant faced suspensions for substance-abuse policy violations throughout his career, including a year-long ban in 2016. Despite the challenges, he returned in 2015 and recorded a career-high 765 receiving yards in 10 games. After playing for the Steelers in 2017, Bryant was traded to the Raiders.
The Dallas Cowboys released Bryant in May after he spent time on their practice squad last season. The Commanders are giving the 32-year-old receiver another chance to make a comeback in the league. Bryant’s tumultuous journey in the NFL has seen significant ups and downs, and Washington is looking to see if he can contribute positively to their team.
