Dak Prescott sits out of practice as a precaution due to ankle soreness

Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys sat out a light practice session on Friday due to mild soreness in his surgically repaired right ankle. The decision was made as a precautionary measure following a joint workout with the Los Angeles Rams ahead of their preseason game on Saturday. Prescott, who is not expected to play in the preseason, is entering the final season of his four-year, $160 million contract but has not missed any camp time.

Meanwhile, All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is absent from training camp as he seeks a new contract with a year left on his rookie deal. Prescott, who suffered a severe ankle injury in 2020, watched the practice in California without wearing a protective boot, indicating progress in his recovery. The quarterback had previously worn a boot in a social media photo, which he clarified was a precautionary measure during his vacation in Mexico.

Prescott had an impressive season last year, finishing as the runner-up in the NFL MVP voting after throwing a career-high 36 touchdown passes and accumulating 4,516 passing yards with nine interceptions. Despite their successful regular season with a 12-5 record, the Cowboys were eliminated from the playoffs by the Green Bay Packers. Dallas has reached the playoffs for three consecutive years with a 12-5 record each time but has not advanced to a conference championship game.
