Trump to hold news conference in first public appearance following Harris choosing Walz as running mate

Former President Donald Trump will make a public appearance at a news conference in Mar-a-Lago, his Florida residence, marking his first public appearance since Vice President Kamala Harris was selected as the Democratic presidential nominee alongside Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate. The news conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT and was announced on Trump’s Truth Social network, where he expressed his enthusiasm for debating Harris.

Earlier in the week, Trump hinted at an announcement regarding a presidential debate after withdrawing from a scheduled ABC News debate set for Sept. 10. Initially preferring Fox News to host the debate, Trump appeared open to reconsidering ABC as the debate’s sponsor as of Wednesday.

Trump stated on Truth Social, “I will expose Kamala during the Debate the same way I exposed Crooked Joe, Hillary, and everyone else during Debates.” He made reference to Democrats Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, expressing his confidence that debating Kamala would be easier.

Ohio Sen. JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, criticized Harris for not conducting news conferences or interview sessions since Biden exited his presidential reelection campaign and she began her White House bid. Harris occasionally responds to shouted questions while boarding or leaving campaign stops.
