Musical gala at Fox Theatre in Atlanta to celebrate Jimmy Carter’s 100th birthday

Former President Jimmy Carter will be celebrated ahead of his 100th birthday with a special musical gala called “Jimmy Carter 100: A Celebration in Song” at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta on September 17, as announced by The Carter Center. The event will bring together musicians from various genres and celebrity guests to honor Carter, whose birthday is on October 1.

Artists scheduled to perform include Chuck Leavell, D-Nice, Drive-By Truckers, Eric Church, GROUPLOVE, Maren Morris, and The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chamber Chorus. Notable guests will include former Atlanta Braves star Dale Murphy, Atlanta rapper Killer Mike, and actor Sean Penn, with additional guests to be revealed closer to the event date.

Former President Carter, who served from 1977 to 1981, is currently at his residence in Plains, Georgia, under hospice care since February 2023. Despite this, he is described as being in good spirits, enjoying music, watching Braves games on TV, and receiving occasional visitors, reflecting his lifelong appreciation for music, as noted by his grandson Jason Carter, who chairs the board of The Carter Center.

The musical gala at the Fox Theatre aims to highlight the Carters’ dedication to advocating for human rights, public health, and democracy globally through The Carter Center, the organization they founded in 1982. Tickets for the event will be priced at $100 and will be available for purchase through the Fox Theatre box office starting at 10 a.m. on August 5. The proceeds will support the initiatives of The Carter Center.

Additionally, The Carter Center is inviting the public to submit messages for the former president, which will be compiled into a digital mosaic, similar to a tribute done during his 99th birthday celebration. This initiative aims to further commemorate Jimmy Carter’s milestone birthday and his lifelong commitment to humanitarian causes.
