1 Person Fatally Shot, 6 Injured in Upstate Rochester Park

A tragic incident unfolded at Maplewood Park in upstate New York on Sunday, resulting in one fatality and six individuals sustaining injuries from a mass shooting. Responding to reports of shots fired, the Rochester police arrived at the park around 6:20 p.m. where they encountered numerous victims in need of medical attention. Captain Greg Bello informed that among the injured, an individual in their 20s lost their life, one person faced life-threatening wounds, and five others were hospitalized with minor injuries.

The deceased victim’s identity remains undisclosed as authorities are in the process of informing their family. Multiple law enforcement agencies, such as Irondequoit Police, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester Police, and New York State Police, were involved in responding to the scene. It was confirmed by the Rochester police that a gathering or party was taking place in the vicinity during the time of the shooting.

Captain Bello mentioned the challenges in determining the number of shooters involved in the incident, stating, “At this point we don’t know how many people were shooting. We are trying to work our way through as many witnesses as we can.” As of now, no suspects have been apprehended by the authorities. The police have urged individuals with video footage of the shooting to share it with Major Crimes, reach out to Crime Stoppers, or contact 311 or 911 with any relevant information.

Rochester, situated about 340 miles northwest of Manhattan, witnessed this tragic event that has left the community shaken. The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement officials work diligently to gather information and bring justice to the victims and their families.
