NASCAR has imposed a $50,000 fine on Bubba Wallace for making retaliatory contact with race winner Alex Bowman on the cooldown lap of the Chicago Street Race. The incident involved Wallace door-slamming Bowman’s car, causing it to hit the wall. Bowman admitted to spinning Wallace during the event earlier and felt the retaliation was justified. Despite the altercation, Bowman expressed support for Wallace, stating that Wallace had the right to be upset. Following the race, Bowman acknowledged his mistake that led to the incident, mentioning that he had been distracted by technical issues in his car and missed the corner, ultimately leading to the collision with Wallace. Wallace’s window net was down during the retaliatory act against Bowman, which was captured on camera from inside Bowman’s car showing the impact on the driver. Apart from Wallace’s fine, NASCAR is also planning to have a discussion with Chase Elliott regarding his contact with Daniel Suarez after the same race.
