A sheriff in Louisiana shared an incredible story of a one-year-old “miracle baby” who survived two days of stormy weather after being found crawling along a roadside. The discovery came the day after the child’s four-year-old brother was found deceased, and their mother was arrested in Mississippi.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Gary “Stitch” Guillory described the baby as having numerous bug bites but otherwise appearing to be in good health. The four-year-old’s autopsy results were pending. The body was discovered in a lake behind an Interstate 10 welcome center near the Texas state line.
Investigators learned that the last time the four-year-old was seen was on Saturday with his mother, Aaliyah Jack, 25. Authorities had concerns that the one-year-old had also met a tragic fate before a vigilant truck driver spotted him.
Despite the harsh weather conditions caused by Hurricane Beryl, which hit East Texas, the infant managed to survive outdoors for two days until being found. The sheriff referred to the baby as a “miracle baby.”
Aaliyah Jack was apprehended in Meridian, Mississippi, over 350 miles away from where her children were discovered. She faced a charge of failure to report a missing child with a bond set at $300,000. The investigation was ongoing, and as of now, no additional charges had been filed. It was not clear if Jack had legal representation available to provide a statement on her behalf.
