Fendi’s gender-busting men’s collection draws inspiration from ‘chicest women’ Princess Anne

Silvia Venturini Fendi curated a men’s collection that seamlessly blends traditional elegance with contemporary flair, drawing inspiration from an aristocratic family’s heirlooms.

Unveiled during Milan Fashion Week, the preview showcased a highlands-stomping Fall-Winter 2024-25 silhouette, infused with the spirit of Princess Anne, celebrated by Venturini Fendi as “the chicest woman in the world.”

The collection featured generous overcoats, leather wellies, and rumpled cloche hats, evoking an outdoorsy aesthetic fit for Balmoral. The color palette, reminiscent of a rainy day on the highlands, included moss, brown, slate gray, maroon, cornflower blue, and mustard.

Venturini Fendi’s design prowess played with traditional gender norms, as loose trousers with side plisses seamlessly transitioned into long pleated Bermuda kilts and low-slung skorts in plaid blanket wool. The collection blurred the lines between masculinity and femininity, merging the ethos of tradition-bound aristocracy with contemporary streetwear.

Underneath, outfits were complemented by the finest twinsets and thrice-layered knit tanks, creating a rich depth of color. Venturini Fendi expressed her desire to break barriers, challenging the outdated notions of masculine and feminine codes that, according to her, should no longer exist.

The runway exuded a casual, off-hours mood, with jackets often flung over arms as a signal that the day’s work was done. Soft corduroy trousers fell into slit hemlines, paired with thick-soled sneakers. The eveningwear showcased soft suits and overcoats with shimmery surfaces, complemented by nearly sheer long knitwear over trousers, adding a touch of decadence.

Embracing the trend of minimal logo exposure in Milan, the Fendi logo appeared sparingly, featuring as a geometric repeat pattern on checked double-Fs in bright prints or covering a portable music speaker created in collaboration with French brand Devialet.

Venturini Fendi emphasized the collection’s focus on longevity and the creation of heirlooms. Her vision aimed to underline garments for a lifetime, challenging the culture of disposable fashion with a commitment to enduring style and craftsmanship.
