NEW YORK — A tragic boating accident in New York led to the deaths of three individuals, while two others were rushed to the hospital, prompting an ongoing search for one missing person by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Hospital officials reported that one of the individuals receiving treatment was in critical condition as of Monday morning, while the second victim was reported to be stable. This incident occurred when the boat began taking on water approximately 5 miles (8 kilometers) southeast of Breezy Point, located at the southern tip of Queens’ Rockaway peninsula.

The Coast Guard is actively searching for the missing person. Sydney Phoenix, a spokesperson for the Coast Guard, confirmed in an email that they have dispatched aircrews from Air Station Atlantic City and the Coast Guard Cutter Chadwick to the area to assist in the search efforts.

On Sunday, the Coast Guard rescue teams initiated their response to aid the boaters in distress. In addition to the Coast Guard, local authorities such as the New York police and fire departments, New Jersey State Police, and the Sandy Hook Pilots also contributed to the search operations.

As the recovery efforts continue, the community mourns the loss of life while hoping for the safe return of the missing individual. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is expected to provide further insights in the days to come.
