SAO PAULO — Lady Gaga has officially announced that she will take the stage for a complimentary concert at Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Copacabana Beach on May 3rd.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Gaga expressed her excitement about returning to perform: “I’ve been wanting to come and sing for you for years. It broke my heart when I had to cancel a performance in the past due to being hospitalized.” This reference harks back to 2017 when she had to withdraw from the Rock in Rio festival for health reasons, prioritizing her well-being at that time.
Now, Gaga has confirmed her return and is looking forward to delivering an unforgettable experience for her fans: “I feel better than ever and am putting in a lot of effort to ensure that this concert will be something you’ll always remember.”
This beach concert coincides with a recent trend of major pop acts performing for free in Rio; last May, Madonna performed at the same location, attracting a remarkable crowd of around 1.6 million fans to the storied coastline.
Rio de Janeiro’s mayor, Eduardo Paes, who regained his position last year for another four-year term, has made it his mission to secure international concerts in the city annually every May. Adding a lighthearted touch, he posted on social media jokingly stating, “I don’t have tickets for the Lady Gaga show! It’s open and free!” while sharing the news of her upcoming performance.
