JACKSON, Miss. — On Wednesday, the Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi, Delbert Hosemann, unexpectedly collapsed in the Senate chamber.
Several witnesses captured the moment on video as Hosemann, who was addressing the chamber from a podium, leaned forward before suddenly falling to the ground. Immediate reactions saw several individuals rushing to assist him, leading to a swift recess of the Senate session.

According to a statement provided by spokesperson Hannah Milliet, Lt. Gov. Hosemann is recovering well and remains in good spirits. He expressed gratitude towards the medical personnel who attended to him and is looking forward to resuming his duties. However, further details regarding the incident were not disclosed.

Mississippi’s Governor, Tate Reeves, shared his thoughts on social media platform X, mentioning that he and his wife are keeping Lieutenant Governor Hosemann in their prayers. Messages of encouragement and support flooded in from fellow lawmakers as well.

Just a week prior to this incident, on February 12, Hosemann had introduced a significant tax reduction plan valued at $326 million. During his presentation, he highlighted the importance of creating a sustainable approach to tax cuts over the next four years. The proposed plan aims to lower both state income taxes and the grocery sales tax, while also suggesting an increase in the gasoline tax to fund necessary road improvements.
