Suspect admits to murdering roommate in Manhattan following discovery of body parts in East River, according to authorities.

A man in Manhattan has been accused of murdering his roommate and attempting to dispose of the body in the ocean, as claimed by prosecutors in New York City. The gruesome incident involves charges of brutal stabbing, which the authorities allege was followed by an effort to dismember and dispose of the remains.

Christian Millet, aged 23, faced arraignment on Thursday and is currently held without bail on charges of murder. His public defender, Shari Leigh Vrod, has not yet commented on the case as a request for communication has gone unanswered.

The investigation began on February 5 when members of the NYPD harbor boat unit discovered body parts—including a severed torso—in a duffel bag floating in the East River. This disturbing discovery eventually led to the identification of the victim, who has been confirmed as Edwin Echevarria, aged 65.

According to court documents, prosecutors revealed that Millet admitted to stabbing Echevarria. Evidence discovered in the apartment included blood-stained paper towels and a possible murder weapon—a screwdriver with a sharp, cylindrical tip.

During the arraignment, prosecutors characterized Echevarria as a “grandfather figure” to Millet. However, they disclosed that Millet confessed to killing Echevarria, attributing the act to “an insane urge to kill.” The case continues to unfold as authorities gather more details surrounding this chilling event.
