Unexpected alignment: Newsom’s shocking U-turn on immigration policy

California Governor Gavin Newsom has taken a shocking step closer to President Donald Trump’s immigration policy. This move comes just days after sanctuary cities were warned to comply with federal law.

Vetoing the woke agenda

Newsom, a proud Democrat, will veto a radical bill from his own party. The legislation aimed to block state prisons from cooperating with immigration agents. But even Newsom found it too extreme. The law would have prohibited prisons from holding immigrants for ICE, sharing release dates, or transferring them into federal custody.

Breaking with the far left

Newsom has long championed California’s sanctuary city protections. However, this proposal went too far. He previously rejected a similar bill, arguing it would interfere with federal law enforcement’s ability to assess public safety risks. His latest move puts him closer to Trump’s immigration stance, despite his history of opposition.

DOJ cracks down on sanctuary cities

Attorney General Pam Bondi is on a mission to hold sanctuary cities accountable. She recently announced legal action against New York and Governor Kathy Hochul for prioritizing illegal immigrants over U.S. citizens.

We are taking steps to protect Americans,’ Bondi declared. ‘It stops today.’

She warned that the Justice Department is prepared to target other states. Border czar Tom Homan even suggested prosecuting local officials who obstruct federal immigration enforcement.

ICE raids surge under Trump

Trump wasted no time delivering on his promise of mass deportations. ICE agents have been conducting nationwide raids, rounding up undocumented migrants. In just 18 days, they arrested 11,000 ‘criminals’—an average of 611 per day.

Criminal gangs, like Tren de Aragua, have been dismantled. Some of the most dangerous offenders are being sent to Guantanamo Bay.

Trump’s immigration crackdown intensifies

Trump has expanded ICE’s authority, allowing agents to arrest migrants in sensitive locations like schools and churches. This policy has sent shockwaves through migrant communities.

‘This action empowers our brave men and women to enforce immigration laws and catch criminal aliens—including murderers and rapists,’ the Department of Homeland Security stated.

Trump has also pressured foreign governments into cooperation. After threatening crippling tariffs, he secured a deal for Mexico to deploy 10,000 troops to the U.S. border. Their mission: stop illegal migrants and the flow of fentanyl.

Protests erupt against deportation plan

While Trump and his allies celebrate their crackdown, liberals are furious. Protests have erupted nationwide, including in Newsom’s own Los Angeles. Last week, hundreds of demonstrators filled the streets in defiance.

Police in riot gear struggled to control the chaos. The crackdown has not deterred Trump’s administration. In fact, Homan has vowed to intensify arrests. ‘Sanctuary cities are putting up roadblocks. We need to increase the number of deportations,’ he said.

Newsom’s unexpected alignment with Trump

Newsom’s veto won’t end sanctuary policies, but it marks a shift. The once vocal Trump critic now finds himself reluctantly siding with the President on immigration.

The two men have clashed fiercely in the past. Trump famously dubbed him ‘Newscum.’ Their feud escalated during California’s wildfire crisis, with Trump bizarrely claiming state officials could have prevented the disaster by ‘turning on a valve’ to release water.

Newsom hit back, calling Trump ‘either clueless or deliberately misleading.’

Despite his past defiance, Newsom’s latest move suggests a more pragmatic approach.
