EL PASO, Texas — A significant fire erupted on Tuesday at a transit facility adjacent to the El Paso international airport, resulting in injuries to five individuals and generating a considerable plume of dark smoke visible across the city, which lies along the U.S.-Mexico border.

At this time, officials have not disclosed the cause of the fire at the Sun Metro Bicentennial Council Transit Operations Center. Fire crews arrived on the scene in large numbers, with over 100 firefighters tackling the incident, according to El Paso Fire Department Deputy Chief Robert Arvizu. He mentioned that the exact number of individuals who were present in the building at the time of the fire remains unknown, as the structure sustained significant damage, leading to the collapse of both its walls and roof. Authorities confirmed that by mid-afternoon, they had successfully managed to bring the fire under control.

Fortunately, operations at the El Paso International Airport were not affected by the blaze, as noted by the city spokesperson, Laura Cruz Acosta. Emergency services are continuing to assess the situation and will provide further updates following their investigation into the cause of the fire.
