NEW ALBANY, Ohio — In a distressing incident, a warehouse employee urgently called 911 to report that he had been shot in the neck and had disarmed a co-worker who had opened fire, injuring multiple people. Sadly, the shooting resulted in the death of two individuals and injured four others, causing chaos among employees at the New Albany facility.

The motive behind the shooting, which took place on Tuesday evening in New Albany—located approximately 15 miles northeast of Columbus—remains unclear. The alleged shooter, identified as 28-year-old Bruce Reginald Foster III, is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Thursday.

On Thursday, the Franklin County Coroner’s Office reported that one of the victims, identified as 30-year-old Shakhar Chapagai, succumbed to his injuries late Wednesday at Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus. Details regarding the condition of the other injured employees have not been disclosed.

In the frantic calls made to 911, one worker mentioned that some of the victims were shot in the production area. The employee who managed to seize the firearm stated he later handed it over to a supervisor, highlighting the abruptness of the situation.

New Albany Police Chief Greg Jones provided an update on the investigation, mentioning that the suspect had spoken to investigators, although Jones described Foster’s cooperation level as lacking. As of Thursday morning, no defense attorney had been formally associated with Foster’s aggravated murder case, and attempts to reach him or his relatives via phone were unsuccessful.

Authorities indicated that police were close to apprehending Foster shortly after the shooting, as he was attempting to leave the scene in a rideshare vehicle. Following this, law enforcement launched a thorough search of the facility, utilizing drones and K9 units to assist in the operation.

“It appears that there was some form of interaction between a victim and the shooter,” Jones remarked, admitting that the specifics of their exchange remain unknown.

Early Wednesday morning, Foster was located and arrested at an apartment in Columbus. It was reported that a stun gun was necessary to subdue him, as he initially resisted surrendering to authorities.

The incident unfolded at a warehouse owned by a company specializing in the production of cosmetics and toiletries. Around 150 employees were safely evacuated to a nearby building in response to the unfolding emergency. Despite the alarming circumstances, Chief Jones stated that there had been no prior reports of conflict involving Foster at the workplace.
