Kilauea eruption sees dramatic lava fountains in recent volcanic activity in Hawaii

HONOLULU — A dramatic lava fountain is currently active at a volcano in Hawaii, marking the latest phase of an eruption that has seen periods of both pause and activity.
On Monday night, the lava spouts originating from a vent of Kilauea volcano, located on the Big Island, reached heights exceeding 250 feet (approximately 76.2 meters), as reported by the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Live webcam feeds on Tuesday morning illustrated the powerful flows of bright red lava cascading from the volcano.
The eruption was initiated on December 23 at the summit’s crater of Kilauea, recognized as one of the planet’s most frequently erupting volcanoes.

This event signifies the eighth cycle of the ongoing eruption. The observatory noted that the activity began with minor, irregular spatter fountains on Sunday that quickly intensified. These fountains surged from a modest height of 50 feet (around 15.24 meters) to an astonishing 250 feet (76.2 meters) within just an hour on Monday evening.

Crucially, the eruption is taking place in a designated area of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which effectively mitigates risks to nearby residential areas and existing infrastructure.
This ongoing volcanic activity continues to captivate both scientists and spectators, highlighting the dynamic nature of Kilauea.
