Kim Kardashian has just lost 150,000 Instagram followers after posting a photo of Melania Trump. The picture, shared on Inauguration Day, shows the First Lady in a wide-brimmed hat. Fans weren’t happy about it.
Massive drop in followers
According to Socially Powerful, an influencer marketing agency, Kardashian’s follower count dropped by 144,963 after the post. On X (formerly Twitter), she also lost 9,553 followers.
The backlash was swift. Many people were offended by the post. One user wrote, “Well at least we can see exactly who you are.” Another commenter suggested, “Guys unfollow, don’t watch their show and don’t buy their products. Hit them where it hurts.”
Some were upset because Kardashian posted about Melania Trump on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The day honored the late civil rights leader, and one Instagram user pointed out the lack of a tribute to him.
Kardashian’s political ties
Kardashian, who has over 358 million followers on Instagram, is no stranger to controversy. She’s been known for her political ties and activism. Although she supports Democrats, her connection with Ivanka Trump led her to work with the Trump administration. She helped convince former President Trump to commute the life sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, a woman convicted of a nonviolent drug crime.
Focus on criminal justice reform
Her support for prison reform and criminal justice was evident when she participated in White House discussions during Trump’s presidency. In April 2020, Kardashian made it clear that she would not publicly back any presidential candidate. Instead, she focused on her reform efforts.
While Kardashian’s decision to post the Melania Trump photo may have sparked drama, it’s clear her influence is still strong. Whether this backlash will impact her long-term reach remains to be seen.
