A conservative think tank is urging Donald Trump to declassify Prince Harry’s immigration records, following allegations that the Duke of Sussex may have misled authorities about his past drug use when applying for residency in the U.S.
The call for transparency comes amid heightened scrutiny of Harry’s public admissions of cocaine, cannabis, and psychedelic mushroom use in his memoir, Spare.
Trump’s Border Enforcement Push
On the 2024 campaign trail, Trump vowed to address any false claims made on official immigration forms. “If they know something about the drugs, and if he lied, they’ll have to take appropriate action,” he stated, signaling his commitment to stricter border control and accountability.
The Heritage Foundation, a prominent conservative organization, has filed legal actions to access Harry’s visa documents through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Nile Gardiner, director of Heritage’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom, emphasized, “No one is above the law. Prince Harry should be held accountable for his admitted drug use.”
Past Legal Challenges to Disclosure
Last year, a federal judge ruled against releasing Harry’s immigration records, citing privacy concerns. However, Heritage continues to push for transparency, arguing that public interest in the case outweighs privacy issues. “This is about rule of law, transparency, and ensuring that no special treatment was given,” Gardiner said.
Harry’s 2023 memoir revealed details about his teenage experimentation with cocaine and other substances. Critics now question whether he disclosed this history during his immigration process. The controversy also touches on Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation, which has made significant donations, including a $250,000 contribution to President Joe Biden’s daughter Ashley’s nonprofit organization.
