Country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, 63, is at the center of a family plea for help following a troubled performance at one of President Donald Trump’s inaugural balls. The January 20th performance, marred by technical difficulties and a public meltdown, left the Cyrus family deeply worried about the singer’s well-being.
Family issues heartfelt plea
Trace Cyrus, 35, Billy Ray’s adopted son and former guitarist of Metro Station, shared a lengthy and emotional message on Instagram expressing concern for his father. In the post, Trace revealed that the family has been worried about Billy Ray for years.
“Since my earliest memories, all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever. I wanted to be just like you,” Trace wrote. “Sadly, the man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now.”
Trace also addressed the strained family relationships, including Billy Ray’s apparent distance from his youngest daughter, Noah Cyrus.
“Noah desperately has wanted you to be a part of her life, and you haven’t even been there for her. That’s your baby girl. She deserves better,” he added.
The heartfelt message was also a call for reconciliation, as Trace expressed his hopes for his father’s recovery and willingness to seek help. “As I write this with tears in my eyes, I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love,” Trace wrote, adding that he is “over a year and a half clean from alcohol.”
Performance troubles
Billy Ray’s performance at the Liberty Ball on Monday evening became the subject of criticism after the singer struggled with what he described as severe technical issues.
“I wouldn’t have missed the honor of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar, and monitors worked or not,” Billy Ray wrote on Instagram. “I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me.”
Despite the technical problems, Billy Ray insisted that he gave it his all, calling the experience “rock ‘n roll.”
Family’s ongoing concerns
Trace’s message hinted at long-standing issues within the Cyrus family, suggesting that Billy Ray has distanced himself from his children.
“We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew and hoping for the day he returns,” Trace wrote, while offering his unconditional support.
“You know how to reach me. Till that day comes, I will continue to pray for you,” he concluded.
As of now, Billy Ray has not publicly responded to Trace’s emotional plea. However, the post has drawn significant attention, with fans and followers expressing sympathy for the family.
A call for healing
This public family rift highlights not only the personal struggles of a legendary musician but also the challenges of reconciliation. Whether Billy Ray Cyrus will respond to his son’s call for help remains uncertain, but Trace’s message reflects a deep desire for healing and unity within the Cyrus family.
