LOS ANGELES — The well-known gaming company Nintendo has unveiled its latest console in an eagerly awaited announcement, much anticipated by players who have been speculating about its launch for years.
The new device, named the Nintendo Switch 2, will serve as the follow-up to the original Nintendo Switch system and is scheduled for release in 2025, according to the company’s statement.
In a freshly released promotional video, Nintendo gives a glimpse of a larger version of the Switch that bears resemblance to its forerunner. The video presents the new controllers, known as Joy-Cons, which now attach directly to the sides of the main console, departing from the previous model’s sliding mechanism.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will be compatible with exclusive titles, specifically designed for the new platform, as well as both physical and digital games from the original Switch. However, the company has indicated that some games for the original Switch may not be fully functional or compatible with the new console.
Although the announcement lacked extensive details about the system or a precise launch date, Nintendo assured that more information would be disclosed at the upcoming April Nintendo Direct event. Moreover, the Kyoto-based gaming publisher plans to organize “Nintendo Switch 2 Experience” events around the globe, offering players a chance to get hands-on experience with the upcoming device.
These events will take place in major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, London, and Paris, starting in April. Nintendo mentioned that ticket registration for these experiences will commence this Friday.
