Biden has become a great-grandfather.

LOS ANGELES — President Joe Biden officially became a great-grandfather on Wednesday, welcoming a new member to the family. His granddaughter, Naomi Biden Neal, gave birth to a son at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, with her husband, Peter Neal. The couple named their son William Brannon Neal IV, a detail shared through an Instagram post by First Lady Jill Biden featuring a heartwarming photo of her and the president with the newborn.

During an official briefing addressing the wildfires affecting Southern California, President Biden announced the significant milestone. “The good news is I’m a great-grandfather as of today,” he declared, adding a personal touch to the typically serious meeting.

The Bidens spent around 40 minutes at the hospital bonding with Naomi and her newborn. Earlier in the day, President Biden had informed USA Today that Naomi was undergoing a cesarean section.

Arriving in Los Angeles late Monday, the president and first lady had earlier visited New Orleans to express condolences to the community following a tragic vehicle attack on New Year’s Day. Biden had planned to make a significant announcement regarding new national monuments during his California trip; however, that event was postponed due to the ongoing wildfires.

Naomi Biden, aged 31, is the first child of Hunter Biden and his ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle. Hunter Biden now adds the role of grandfather to his experiences, as he has four other children, including Beau, a 4-year-old who has just attained the title of uncle.

At 82, Joe Biden has made history as the first sitting president to achieve the title of great-grandfather while in office. Naomi and Peter were married in a grand ceremony at the White House in November 2022, marking a historic first as the first wedding involving a president’s granddaughter and the first to take place on the South Lawn.

Naomi publicly shared her pregnancy on Election Day, November 5, by posting a selfie showcasing her baby bump with the caption, “We Voted.” This joyful news adds another cherished chapter to the Biden family’s legacy.
