Donald Trump Jr. plans a trip to Greenland as his father contemplates US sovereignty over the territory again.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Donald Trump Jr. is set to embark on a trip to Greenland, a Danish territory that has been at the center of discussions following his father’s provocative remarks about U.S. acquisition of the island.

The younger Trump plans to visit for a day to capture video content intended for his podcast, but has no scheduled meetings with political figures or government officials, according to a source who wished to remain anonymous.

President-elect Trump took to his social media platform to express excitement about the visit, stating, “I’m hearing that the people of Greenland are ‘MAGA.’ My son, Don Jr., and various representatives will be traveling there to explore some of the most magnificent areas and sights.” He added, “Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation… We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”

Reports from Danish broadcaster DR quote Mininnguaq Kleist, head of the Department of Foreign Affairs, affirming that Trump Jr.’s visit is private and that no requests to meet with the Greenland government have been made.

Múte B. Egede, the Prime Minister of Greenland, has yet to comment on the upcoming visit. The island operates as an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark.

Trump has previously expressed interest in Greenland. Earlier this year, he suggested that control of the island was crucial for national security in a statement made while introducing his ambassador pick for Denmark.

Trump Jr. plays a significant role in his father’s political endeavors, contributing to the presidential transition team and helping staff the new administration. However, he has indicated that he will not take on an official role within his father’s administration, preferring to support from a distance. He maintains an active online presence, hosting his own podcast, “Triggered With Don Jr.,” and engaging in social media commentary.

While there have been mentions of a possible meeting with Erik Jensen, the head of the governing party in Greenland, the source familiar with Trump Jr.’s itinerary confirmed no plans for such an encounter.

On the same day, Elon Musk, billionaire and advisor to the president-elect, shared his belief on social media that “The People of Greenland should decide their future and I think they want to be part of America!”

During his first term, Trump had entertained the notion of purchasing Greenland, which operates under its own government system since gaining home rule in 1979. He even canceled a trip to Denmark after the Prime Minister dismissed the acquisition proposal.

Greenland, the world’s largest island, is strategically located between the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. About 80% of its surface is covered by an ice sheet and it hosts a significant U.S. military installation.

In response to earlier comments made by Trump, Prime Minister Egede asserted, “Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and will never be for sale… We must not lose our years-long fight for freedom.”

Greenland’s parliament, led by Egede, maintains its own governance, and new elections are anticipated by April 6.

Aaja Chemnitz, a member of Greenland’s parliament, voiced her disagreement with the notion of being absorbed into the U.S., emphasizing the need for the region to resist any pressure from the president-elect. She described it as “incredible that some can be so naive to think happiness is made by us becoming American citizens,” expressing her strong stance against becoming part of Trump’s aspirations.

“Don’t let Trump control the Greenland election campaign and leave the population as losers in that game,” Chemnitz urged in a Facebook post.
