Residents Share Harrowing Tales of Survival

In one of the hardest-hit areas near County Road 191, homeowner Anna Peterson recounted the terrifying moment the storm struck.

“I heard the back door fly open and yelled to my husband, ‘Run!’ We hid in the closet with our puppies,” Peterson said. “Minutes later, it was over, and when we opened the front door, everything was gone.”

The storm obliterated Peterson’s secured fifth-wheel trailer, blowing it onto a neighboring property.

Businesses and Schools Hit Hard

The SMART Center Day Care also suffered extensive damage.

“Lots of broken windows and structural damage,” said Rebecca Ray, who expressed shock at the level of destruction. Crews are still assessing the site.

The tornado left its mark along a path stretching from the north end of County Road 191 near Liverpool to Highway 35, damaging several areas near Hillcrest Village.

Search and Recovery Efforts Ongoing

Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Madison Polston said search teams are combing through the damage to ensure everyone is accounted for.

“Although there were multiple touchdown points, they were relatively small in area,” Polston explained. “Secondary searches are underway to confirm no one is missing.”
